The route master will go to check the condition of the skating route in the morning, we will update the information about it here as soon as possible. EDIT. AT 11.30 the skating route has been ploughed from Oravi to Linnansaari, the rest of the trail will be opened during the day. The surface ice is uneven on some parts on the route, so when skating use caution. The traditional forest cross-country ski track in Oravi (3,5km) and the ski track on the ice from Oravi to Linnansaari (5km/suunta) will be opened during the afternoon. Oravi's equipment rental is open between 9-17.

There is fairly lot of snow on the skating route, so today is a skiing day. We will report again when the skating route is plowed and in good condition for skating/kick sledging. You can ski or walk on the marked snowmobile trail to Linnansaari (there is no traditional skiing track on the ice).

Today it will start snowing in the afternoon and by the end of the week its is getting colder. Today it is possible to go on the skating route before the snowfall starts. The route will not be ploughed in the afternoon during the snowfall.

Last night there was a bit of frost and at least in the morning it's good to be on the ice with a kicksled. Since all the snow has melted, you can basically kick anywhere on the ice, but for safety reasons follow the marked route, ie the edge of the skating trail or the marked snowmobile route. Last week's weather has melted the ice in the streams so it is important to stay on the route if you are not familiar with the underwater. The equipment rental shop in Orav will be open on Sunday from 10am to 3pm for more detailed instructions. Next week we are expecting more frost and even snow showers.

The weather forecast for today is +3-6 degrees (with strong wind gusts in the afternoon) and more water has risen on the ice. We recommend kick sledges or walking from Oravi via Savonselkä lake hut to Linnansaari, it would be good to have waterproof boots (and when walking even sticks). It is now better to use a kick sledge on the snowmobile trail rather than on the ploughed skating route, since the surface ice is not strong enough. In the afternoon it is likely that the surface ice softens even more when the temperatures rise. It is not possible to go skating today. Oravi's equipment rental and shop-café are open from 9-17, soup lunch available from 11-15. Linnansaari café is not open today.

The skating route between Oravi-Linnansaari-shipway is open. EDIT AT 10AM. We recommend using kick sledges on the route, since the surface ice has not yet frozen properly in many places. It is better to come in the morning. Oravi's equipment rental and shop-café is open from 9-17, with a soup lunch available from 11-15. EDIT 12.35 The surface ice has softened that much now that we recommend walking instead of a kick sledge for the afternoon. The café in Linnansaari is not open on Saturday.

The route between Oravi-Linnansaari-shipway is ploughed in the morning, it is possible to use kick sledges (there is no water on the ice, but might have some uneven parts). The weather forecast says that it will be snowing and sleeting today, although the wind has calmed down since yesterday. The Savonselkä lake hut and the Linnansaari fireplace can be reached on foot via a marked snowmobile route. There should be warm weather for the rest of the week so it is still uncertain whether you will be able to skate, it depends on how cold it will be at nights. Oravi's equipment rental and shop-café is open from 9-17, and soup lunch available between 11-15.

This morning it is snowing heavily, afternoon the weather is getting warmer and especially the wind gusts are strong, so the skating route is closed today. From Oravi to Linnansaari you can walk along the marked snowmobile route, along the way (about 2,5km) there is a lake hut where you can stop by inside to make a fire and fry sausages etc. Oravi's equipment rental and shop-café is open from 9-17.
